“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God.” Philippians 4:6 ESV
It is completely natural to feel anxious in this sin-filled world. God expects believers to feel anxious from time to time, but he has provided a solution. Supplication means to ask for something in a humble manner. “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
For God to help us, we must be humble enough to admit we are sinners, and that we rely on Him for everything. Believing that we have the solution to our earthly problems, or that another person does, is prideful and only results in more anxiety. God’s gift of peace is only a humble prayer away.
Humanity has become corporately prideful. We have come to believe that man has the answers or can discover the answers to all earthly problems. We turn to God only after all of our efforts to solve our own problems have failed. Humans are amazingly resourceful, and are capable of great things, but we cannot give ourselves everlasting peace. Our God is an active god, who wants to be in our daily lives, and to provide us with what we need. Turn to God first and experience the peace that passes all understanding.
