“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Paul tells us that God wants us to rejoice always. Notice that this verse is written as a command. We can choose to rejoice. We do not always have control over our emotions, but rejoicing, like loving, is something we can choose to do. The second and third parts of the command, “pray without ceasing”, and “give thanks in all circumstances”, are the key to being able to choose to rejoice. Our earthly lives are difficult, but the Christian knows that a better day is coming, and for that reason we always have reason to rejoice. When we pray without ceasing and give thanks in all circumstances, we are reminded why we rejoice, and are motivated to do it. We serve The Lord, the only True God, who made us, saved us, and guides us through this life until we meet him personally. The Hope that results from knowing you will someday rest in His arms is all you need to rejoice!
