“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”  Philippians 2:3

Nothing is more natural for a human being than to exalt themselves above others.  We often do this without realizing it.  Paul is calling us to intentionally go against our worldly instincts and to follow the example of Jesus, who “being found in human form, humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”  Philippians 2:8

Jesus in the ultimate act of humility allowed Himself to be humiliated, ridiculed, tortured, and crucified.

What does obeying Philippians 2:3 look like for us?

When working with others, give them the credit for your collaborative success.  Go with someone else’s idea even when you think your idea is better.  Support others and do not seek recognition.  Make it your mission to build up others.

We are full of pride and self-worth.  Pray daily asking God to give you a humble heart and to not seek recognition.   Follow Jesus’s example.  You will be a blessing to others.
