“to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.”  Titus 3:2

In Titus, Paul gives many instructions and warnings about Christian behavior.  Being a Christian does not excuse us from respectful behavior towards others, but rather amplifies our responsibility in this area.

How easy it is to fall into the trap of justifying yourself when you feel that you have been disrespected.  The world tells us to stand up for our rights, but Jesus said turn the other cheek.  There are definitely instances when a Christian must stand up for their beliefs, but quarrelling about minor slights and disagreements is not productive, and may weaken any chance you have to share the Gospel.

We are held to an eternal high standard.  Our focus should be on Jesus at all times and in all areas of our lives.  Our actions should reflect our faith in all circumstances.

“Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.”  James 3:13
