The principle of causality states that anything that has a beginning must have a cause. A spark is the cause of a fire, a germ is the cause of an illness, and an artist is the cause of a painting. Scientists agree that the universe had a beginning, therefore the universe must have a cause. Whatever, or whoever caused, or created the universe had to create everything from nothing. What is more, the cause or creator of the universe had to exist outside of time, space and matter, because this cause or creator caused space, time, and matter to come into existence. The force that created the universe had to decide to create it, which means that this force is personal. That means that the creator of the universe is a sentient being. The universe is too complex for humans to comprehend all of it. That means that not only is the creator sentient, but they have to be all knowing. A personal, all knowing creator, who exists before the universe, is outside of time, space, and matter, can decide to create, and is powerful enough to create everything must be … .God.
What caused God? This question is always asked, but it is not a relevant question. God does not require a cause, because He did not have a beginning. He is eternal. He created time, therefore he existed before time. That is mind-blowing for limited fallen creatures.
The fact that the most logical explanation for how the universe came into being is that there must be a being capable of creating the universe does not necessarily mean that our Christian God is the true God. But God has given us His Holy Word, which describes how the universe began, the beginning of life, how He has interacted with human beings throughout time, and His plan for our salvation. We can see many of the people and events in the Bible, including Jesus, in history. The evidence is overwhelming. The God of the Bible created the universe.
