If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. 1 Corinthians 8:2-3
Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous. We can know all about God, but if we do not believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, then all of the knowledge in the world cannot save us. Paul said that knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The love of Jesus Christ, and the sincere and complete acknowledgement of His Lordship in our lives is what is necessary for our salvation. No amount of biblical knowledge, church attendance, service, apologetic argument, or memorized bible verses can change that. We are capable of taking pride in our knowledge of Christ without ever relying on His death and resurrection to save us. We want so badly to be in control and to take credit for our lives that we can know the facts and never put them to use.
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2
God wants us to use our minds, but knowledge cannot save us. We cannot think about Jesus and the resurrection like the atomic weight of gold, or the sum of two numbers.
And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment. Philippians 1:9
Through the cross we may truly love, and through the saving grace of Jesus Christ we are granted discernment and wisdom.
