“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” 2 Corinthians 13:5
People are not naturally self-aware or self-reflective. Because we are self-centered, we do not examine our thoughts, words, and actions. Left to our own devices, we tend to believe that we are right all the time. We trust our own motivations and live for our individual rights. It is only when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, that the Holy Spirit enters us, and we begin to live a self -examined life. It is not possible for people to become completely self-aware this side of eternity. In fact, this is a lengthy process even once we are indwelled with the Holy Spirit. This process is a part of our sanctification, which will only be complete when we enter our eternal life with Jesus. Our job while we are here on Earth is to work to improve in this area intentionally every day. One of the by-products of this improvement will be that others will notice the change in our character, which might help someone else accept Jesus Christ, because they like what they see in us. Our witness to others strengthens as we become more Christ-like in our human lives.
