Man has not been able to create life, although efforts are being made, and some scientists believe they are making progress. “Spudcells” are small synthetic cells created in a laboratory. They must exist in a controlled environment, and they do very little according to their creator, Kate Adamala, besides eat and occasionally make a daughter cell. She refers to them as incredibly wimpy. Still, this is no doubt a remarkable scientific achievement. Of course the creation of Spudcells required chemicals that were already in existence. They were not created from nothing.
The very controlled conditions that the Spudcells require to “live” mirror in a small way the conditions that exist in the universe that allow life to exist. According to the book “I Don’t HAve Enough Faith to be an Atheist” by Norm Geisler and Frank Turek, there are 122 constants in the universe that point to an intelligent Designer. Some of these constants are the placement of Jupiter in its orbit keeps the Earth from being bombarded with cosmic debris. If the rotation of the Earth took more than 24 hours there would be too great a difference in the temperature between night and day. The tilt of the Earth is exactly right. If the tilt was altered even slightly the temperatures on the Earth would be too extreme. Astrophysicist and Christian Apologist Hugh Ross calculates that the probability of the 122 constants existing for any planet without divine creation is essentially zero.
