“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Matthew 6:24

While Jesus was talking about money in this verse, it could apply to your job, success, fame, approval of others, etc.  The Christian life is all-encompassing.  Jesus is not your Lord and Savior sometimes, He is the most important thing in your life all of the time, and he will not share that place in your life with anything or anyone.  We are called upon to live our lives by Jesus’ standard at all times.  We are to live holy lives.   It is inevitable that a Christian will find himself at odds with what the world counts as important.  Choices will have to be made many times per day.  These choices often do not seem to be very significant.  How will you respond to gossip, or a hurtful comment, or an inappropriate comment?  Will you go along with the crowd, or risk being different.  What if someone who has authority over you, or who can influence your success in some area of your life behaves or speaks in a way you cannot condone, or even in a way that you know you should rebuke?

The Christian life can be challenging, and it can be exhausting being vigilant all of the time, but it is what God commands us to do, and it is eternally worth it.  Remembering who God is, and the life He commands us to live are the most important things in our lives.  Be bold in your obedience!
