Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.   James 1:17

People change their minds often.  One moment I can be convinced of something, and then I hear a good argument stating the opposite, and suddenly I am leaning in a different direction.  God is not like that.  In fact, God has never changed His mind, or any of His characteristics.  He is the same today as He was when He created the universe.

That means that God’s moral law has not changed, no matter how much some people want it to.  All of the Ten Commandments are still in effect.  We now keep the Sabbath on the first day of the week instead of the seventh because Jesus fulfilled The Law and was resurrected on the first day of the week, but God’s moral law has not changed.  Only an unchanging God could be so consistent.

We need to be thankful for God’s unchanging Grace.  If God changed His mind, He almost certainly would have destroyed us all by now because we turn away from Him constantly.

“For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.”   Malachi 3:6

Because God is unchanging, we always know what to expect from Him.  His commands are not a mystery.  They are clearly stated in His Holy Word.  God is not affected by time.  He created time, and exists outside of it.  Only things that exist within time change.  God does not, and cannot change.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  Hebrews 13:8

Jesus was God incarnate.  He took on Human form.  He was at once God and man.  And He, like the Father, is unchanging.  The next verse says:

“Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace”  Hebrews 13:9

God’s Word does not change, and doctrine does not change.  Let your heart be strengthened by God’s unchanging, eternal grace.  Do not be led astray.  Do not be fooled by new, unholy ideas.  Our God is an unchanging, Holy God.
