2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. 2 Peter 1:3
Through faith in Him, Jesus has given the believer everything he needs to lead a righteous life. Nothing more is required. Without this free divine gift, we can do nothing righteous. We are lost and incapable of anything good. When filled with His divine power we are capable of so much more.
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 2 Peter 1:5-8
As followers of Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit within us to help us. Only through the Holy Spirit we are able to accomplish what these verses tell us to do. We are able to supplement our faith with these righteous attributes, but as long as we are in this life, it will take effort. The good news is that as we travel through our sanctification toward eternity, it does become easier if we are growing intentionally. We play no part in our salvation, but we do play a part in our sanctification.
Jesus has given us everything we need to live a holy life, we just have to make every effort to use the gift He has given us.
